Fay Sanderson
CBT Therapist. Bsc (Hons), PG Dip, BABCP Accredited
I am a qualified and accredited Cognitive Behaviour Psychotherapist. I have been working within NHS Mental Health Services since 2007, and have been delivering therapy to patients within Primary Care for the past 7 years.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is a treatment which enables you to learn effective techniques and skills to manage distressing emotions. By understanding how our thoughts and behaviours can influence how we feel, we can change our emotional response and improve wellbeing. CBT is a collaborative, structured and goal focused approach, suitable for clients who are motivated to change.
I specialise in treating clients with Depression and Anxiety Disorders, most typically: Specific/Social Phobias, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Generalised Anxiety Disorder and Health Anxiety/Hypochondriasis. I am also trained to deliver CBT for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Low Self Esteem and long term health conditions. I have experience in working with a range of problems not exclusive to this list and aim to adapt treatment to an individual’s needs.
CBT is an evidenced based psychological treatment and recommended by NICE. If you are unsure whether CBT is for you, please do not hesitate to contact me so we can discuss your concerns and whether treatment is likely to be effective.
What to expect
Once you contact me, I like to have a brief telephone conversation to understand your problem and identify whether CBT could be beneficial treatment for you. If we believe it could be, we can make an arrangement to meet for an initial assessment. At this appointment I will gain a better understanding of your problems and you will learn how CBT could help you with your goals. I will also be able to give you an idea of how many sessions you will likely need.
